In 2000, the AHSAA change to the region format for high school football. Since that time, there have been 7 region champions in the BCS, but this is the first time two teams have won their region in the same year. The Ramsay Rams clinched their second region title in three years last week with a victory over Briarwood Christian and completed an undefeated region record with a win over John Carroll last night. The last time Ramsay went undefeated in region play (2016) they won the 6A State Championship.
The Jackson-Olin Mustangs won their first region championship with a historical 9th regular season win against Homewood. Jackson-Olin will play for their first ever undefeated season next week against Parker. Both teams will have home field first round games in the AHSAA Football Playoffs, with Ramsay hosting the #4 team in 5A Region 2 and Jackson-Olin hosting Decatur on November 9th.
