Lady Rams Win AHSAA 5A 2021 Basketball Championship

Head Coach Jarvis Wilson and the Lady Rams of Carver High School made history yesterday, by winning the school’s first Girls State Basketball Championship! Not only did these young ladies defeat Mae Jemison 78-69 in the title game, they did so with only seven players! After a strong first quarter, the 25 – 4 Lady Rams never relinquished control of the game to capture the Alabama High School Athletic Association 5A title.

This is Coach Wilson’s first championship as head coach, and the school’s first title in any sport since 1993 (Track and Field)!

Congratulations Coach Wilson, the Carver Rams, Principal Hines, Athletic Director Aubrey Bennett, and the City of Birmingham!

Wenonah Boys’ Basketball AHSAA 5A State Champions!

If you saw the shirts worn by the Wenonah Boys Basketball players, or read any quotes by Coach Audwin Howard, you saw #Unfinished Business. Well, it has been six years since the boys have held the blue map on the west side of Birmingham, but after a 52-34 victory over Center Point High School, Coach Howard’s team can now say business is finished! For the eighth time in nine years, four girls and four boys, the Wenonah Dragons are 5A State Champions!

In his fifth year as the head boys basketball coach of Wenonah High School, Coach Howard has led the Dragons to two final fours while winning three area championships. Senior guard Cameron Tucker scored 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals to earn Class 5A tournament MVP honors.  He and fellow senior guard Justin Minter, who had eight points and nine rebounds in the title game, will represent Birmingham City Schools and the state of Alabama in the Alabama-Mississippi All-star game, Friday, March 15 at the Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Montgomery.

Congratulations Dragons! #BCSPride #BCSProud!
